Happy Wednesday folks! We’re that little bit closer to the weekend, and with it comes the opening of The White Gallery in London, the UK’s answer to NYC’s Bridal Week. We can’t wait to soak up all the new designs and inspirations for the coming seasons, and share them with you. Watch this space!
But first, a little English wedding heaven from Caught the Light…
Say Hi to Kat & Levi, a sales manager and building surveyor can’t actually remember exactly where they met!
“We just drifted around the same social circle for a couple of years,” says Kat, “things kicked off for us one night when I threw a leaving party for a friend who was going to Africa. I was dressed as a Zebra and he was a rather fetching looking Gorilla. An unlikely pairing I know but a rumour got to my ears that there was a six pack under his costume and, well, the rest is history! (I won’t make any jokes about “animal attraction” I just won’t)”
“As we were dating we had a park in Tooting, near where he lived, that we would spend hours in. It quickly became “our place”. One cold day in November Levi wanted to head to the park for a picnic. I thought that was really strange considering the arctic temperature and had actually convinced myself that he was going to break up with me. We sat and chatted about life for an hour or so whilst wrapped in an old blanket feeding the ducks in the local pond then went for a walk. Mid walk he handed me a card, which I opened and was surprised to read “congratulations on your engagement” I turned around and he was on one knee with a gorgeous ring. Maybe it was a bit presumptuous but he knew there was no way I would ever say no.”
“It took about 8 months to plan the wedding and I absolutely loved every second of it. One set back was that the venue we fell in love with did not have availability on the date that we had planned. To be honest it wasn’t that big a deal though as we decided to just move the wedding forward a day to a Friday. This actually meant that the wedding ended up being on our anniversary exactly two years after we started dating. So it wasn’t that big a problem in the end!”
“The bridesmaids dresses came from a range of wedding dresses at House of Fraser. My mum and my aunt bought fabric in the right colour to suit the wedding theme and put their sewing skills to good use adding sashes to the dresses and creating ties, bow ties and cravats for the men.”
“A lot of the wedding was DIY. We hollowed out books to create the invitations for our day guests, created scrabble place settings, had a DIY photobooth, a very talented friend created a gorgeous screen for us to use to hang keys on for our table plan. In fact most of the wedding was put together by us and our crew of wonderful friends and family. The best thing was that one of my very close family friends is an extremely talented florist. She put together all the flowers for the day with help from my bridesmaids and another friend who also is a florist (Great friends to have!!). The flowers were sourced from Covent Garden flower market and friends back gardens. Bargain!”
